  3. Tapioca Transport & Handling Mechanism

Mechanical systems that I designed and assembled:

(1) Machine Casing


SKILLS LEARNED:

(2) Water Management Systems


DESIGN & ASSEMBLE:

  • Supply water to modules using solenoids, valves, flow rate sensors, etc

  • Design a steam management apparatus

  • Design an ice transportation mechanism

  • Autonomously empty wastewater

(3) Tapioca Transport & Handling


DESIGN & ASSEMBLE:

  • Design stirrer mechanism to solve issue of tapioca sticking together

  • Design transport mechanism for tapioca

  • Food-Safe Design Compliance



Casing in the dark

Sourcing materials was important, such as choosing food-safe materials like vinyl tubing, or stainless steel pipage

The final solution is a continually rotating drum that continuously rotates the boba through water. It also portions out the boba in sections so that old portions can be disposed of.

(4) System-level Machine Layout


SKILLS LEARNED:

  • System Integration with CAD Layout

  • Solidworks and Onshape

The machine consists of 8+ independent subsystems that must integrate for the end-to-end cooking process. I used top-down assembly practices to relate the systems
