Design and Manufacturing of Stirling Engine

Design and Manufacturing of Stirling Engine

Precision metal machining with tolerances of +/-0.00050”

Custom-designed flywheel, bedplate, running motion, structures

Skillsets: Machining, Design for Manufacturability, CAM and CAD

Tools Operated: Bed Mill, Lathe, Metal-cutting Bandsaw, Edge Grinder

Materials: Brass, Steel, AL 6061

Software: Solidworks, MasterCAM

FLYWHEEL

Flywheel consists of an outer ring and inner hub.

The design is inspired by a bicycle cassette gear.

CAT AUTOMATA

To create the moving cat, I used gears and linkages that convert the rotational motion of the flywheel into a mechanism that will move a cat up and down in the motion of running.

BEDPLATE

The bedplate is designed to have gear patterns to provide a steampunk aesthetic.
